MATT GOES UNDER THE KNIFE...

So poor Mateo- he had his knee surgery last Thursday- let's just say it hasn't been the most fun he has ever had. The damage was MUCH worse than anticipated- so instead of just a scope, they had to open him up and REPAIR the meniscus instead of just shaving out the tear. He had 5 anchors placed in it and 6 sutures.   They thought he had one small tear and instead he had 1 large tear and 3 small tears, almost the entire length of the meniscus. So, it STINKS! He has to be on crutches for 6-8 weeks with no weight bearing (school is going to be a real challenge) and then 6 WHOLE MONTHS until he can do any kind of sports ( he can't run or anything like unto it for 6 months). Needless to say, he is BUMMED.....So any prayers in his behalf would be greatly appreciated. Another bad point is that it only has a 70% chance of working... PRAY.PRAY.PRAY...
He has been a trooper though, he is almost weaned off of the pain pills after only 5 days and he went to PT for the second time today and did GRRRREAT!!! You can do it Matt! We love you!
The last 6 -8 months just haven't been the best for us medically- we are hoping to get off this train- FAST!!! :)

We'll send our prayers Matt's way! Jake can relate - he had major knee surgery the beginning of his Senior year, too. Total bummer!

That happened to me once when I was playing for the Denver Broncos. It took me at least 6 weeks to get back in the game. Then, my trade value plummeted and I ended up with the SF 49ers at half of what I was making before.

Bummer.

I hope you get well soon Matt!!

Matt: Sounds like you're in it for the long haul. At least there's still plenty of time to get recuperated before next year's ski season. Also lots of time to heal before you start tracting the year after that. Get better as soon as possible!
