What we've been up to

1. Matt is going to Homecoming Oct. 11th and it should be lots of fun. He is still running cross country.. he had a fun meet in Laughlin, NV last weekend. They got to swim in a river afterwards. He has another meet tomorrow in Indian Springs. He has had sort of a rough season. He started out with a hip injury and now he has what we think is a stress fracture in his right lower leg.. so it's been a hard season. He won't give up though (even though he has a worry wart mom who wants him to) so HATTS OFF to him for hanging in there when it's not the most fun!
2. I am officially being Lindsey and Katies piano teacher -- we cannot find a teacher and have struck out with several attempts, so I am going to see if I can do it!!! YIKES - I am not really too proficient at it myself... but I don't want to them to quit - so until we find a teacher... here we go.
3. Matt got a new car! Yea! My brother owns a car lot in St. George - and he got him a cheap car, so it's nice for him to have wheels again-- THANK YOU SO MUCH SCOTT!!!!!!
4. Ellie is the SUPER student this week in her class! Yippeeee! She is so excited! And I am starting to work in her class once a week doing sight word soldiers!
5. Katie is the "Student of the month" in her class! YEA!
6. Lindsey has started the violin and LOVES it!! She is really liking middle school! Woo-hoo!
7. Dave is finishing up the bed he is making us and it is going to be sooooo pretty! I am excited and thankful to have a husband that is such a great craftsman --that's about all for now... sort of not that exciting... but after all this is my way of journaling so there ya have it!! :)

A quick visit from Nathan and Lannie

So - we had a great little visit from Nathan and LeeAnn yesterday... as usual they spoiled us and we had so much fun with them. The girls got to get out of school a little bit early and played with Nate. We went to the skate park and then LeeAnn cooked us a great dinner! THANKS!! :) It was so nice to have a little time to just relax and do something different! We love you guys!

A bit of gratitude....

So, I have learned a little something this week... I have been looking online and applying for some part time jobs...( I am looking for some work during the day while the kids are all gone) and I have applied for a few little jobs around our area...(secretarial, at schools, stores etc.. etc..) I have been telling Dave (and everyone else) how much I hated nursing and just didn't want to go back to it... well..... after looking into what other job opportunities there are out there, I guess I finally became grateful for my education... I really have taken it for granted. It is a SURE THING and always has been, that whenever I need a job ANYWHERE, ANYTIME I can get a nursing job. I can always sort of pick my own schedule, make enough money at it for it to be worth me going, and it's a good job where I can serve others... IN SHORT, I have been sort of a stinker about it, and I guess I finally got a taste of some humble pie... I am grateful (yes, I said it) to be able to be a nurse and to be able to have a good job when I need/want one!!!! This may seem so simple to a lot of people and a total "no brainer" but to me it has taken a bit to get me to realize that it is a blessing.... SO, that said, I am turning in my application tomorrow (finally) to get my nursing license in Nevada so that I can go back to work in January... I am not really loving the idea of working, or leaving my kids, but it really is a great way to do it if you have to, I can work just 2 days a week, get full benefits and pick the days/times I want to do it... So here's to my education-- hip hip hooray! :)

The girls and I went swimming tonight...(while Dave was at High Council and Matt was at a cross country spaghetti dinner) it felt so good.. we did some laps and then sat in the jacuzzi-- it had been a few weeks, it was nice that it is still hot enough outside to go (thanks Heather) but we are still ready for some cooler weather to show up... We didn't get the girls signed up for any organized sports this fall, it has been so nice to have a more relaxed schedule- but to make up for it, we have been making sure to do some form of exercise every night with them. We usually go for a walk/run at night at the park, or biking in our neighborhood... it's been fun for them and soooo good for us! :) YEA!!

Matt's cross country team

Matt had his second cross country race last Saturday... It was a fun race, a relay, and he did pretty well. His team took first place and so did the girls! Centennial is doing awesome this year! He has his third race tomorrow... so I will get some more pix of him in action then... We are proud of him and how hard he works at his sports... he has quite a busy schedule with his classes at school, seminary and his sports. He had to quit his job this week... it was a great one and he was grateful for it. They told him he was one of the best delivery guys they had ever had and want him back next summer... yeah!

UPDATE

Dave in his natural habitat - this is what he does to wind down after a long day at the office-- play "la guitara" -- I must say he is getting pretty good.

So, Matt had his first Cross country race of the season on Wednesday.. he didn't do as well as he would have liked because of MAJOR injury to his hip... ouch... Lots of Ibuprofen to the rescue! He was in a lot of pain all night... hopefully he will do better at his next meet tomorrow!
Katie is running for Student Body President... She had to give her speech in her class today, she was so excited/nervous! We are proud of her for giving it her best shot! GO KATE! :)
Lindsey started violin today in orchestra-- YEA!!
Ellie is afraid of eating lunch at school because the principal and Vice principal are soooo mean!! Lighten up guys--- it's just lunch! I tell ya, I get pretty tired of the grown ups at schools yelling at the kids- how about a little respect for our little ones?! :(
Week two of school under out belts! Yea! Happy weekend!!!
